Dear Parents,
School Board of Management
Following on from the election of a Father nominee to the Board of Management, the board is now made up as follows;
The Board of Management is as follows:
Chairperson: Amanda Coleman
Treasurer: Cyril Hyland
Secretary/Principal: Erica Gibbons
Teacher Nominee: Elaine Hession
Community Nominees: William Rodgers and Ann O’ Brien
Mothers Nominee: Eleanoir Cazabon Regan
Fathers Nominee: Stephen Kelly

Remaining School Calendar for the Year
Christmas 2018: We get the Christmas Holidays on Friday 21st December 2018. Schools are closed from December 24th to January 4th inclusive. Schools will re-open on Monday 7th January 2019.
February 2019 mid-term break: closed on Thursday 21st February 2019 and Friday 22nd February 2019
Easter Break 2019: school will be closed from April 15th to April 26th inclusive. Schools re-open April 29th.
Last Day of School: June 26th. School closed from June 27th 2019.

School Book Bills
School book rental bills have been issued.

Christmas Play
This years’ Christmas Play ‘Bah Humbug’ will take place in on December 12th at 7:30pm. The Christmas Raffle will also take place on the night.
Christmas Flower Demonstration
Ann O’ Brien will host a Christmas Flower Demonstration on December 5th at 8pm. Entry €10 , includes entry for a door prize in the raffle. Refreshments will be served on the night.

Parents Association
A Parents Association has been recently formed in the school. All parents of children going to the school are considered part of the Parents Association and a committee has been formed. The committee is as follows; Chairperson; Louise Loughery, Secretary; Laura Nash Brett & Mary Murphy, Treasurer; Sharon Kelly.
Please feel free to attend any of the meetings and join in where you can.
The Parents Association ran a very successful Halloween Cake Sale on October 31st in the G.P. Hall of the school. It was a very SPOOKtacular, enjoyable and successful evening. You can keep in touch with what’s happening with the parents association with facebook under Gortjordan Parents Association. A Whatapp group has been created so if you don’t have your number included there and wish to do so Veronica Cosgrove 087 7401661 to have your number included. Parents Association meetings will be announced via text a parent and through Whats App.

GAA Five Star School
Gortjordan has been selected as one of the schools in Mayo to take part in The Gaa Five Star Centre School Programme. This programme encourages children to engage in physical activity, ball skills, mini games, kicking skills and fun games. The staff attended a training day before Halloween on the GAA Five Star Programme. Visiting coaches form part of the programme as well as Physical Education during school time where time will be allocated to the program between now and the end of the school year.

Junior Entrepreneur Program
The Senior room have registered to take part in this year’s Junior Entrepreneur Program. For information visit http://www.juniorentrepreneur.ie.
As part of the program the children will learn what an entrepreneur is, look at some local entrepreneurs and well known entrepreneurs. As part of this local entrepreneurs are asked to come and talk to the children about how they became an entrepreneur and what their business does, makes, produces etc.. If you think you can help out or you know a local entrepreneur that would come in a and visit the school to talk to the children please get in touch.
Following on from that, the children need to come with a business idea, a product, game anything.

Credit Union Art Competition
Well done the the boys and girls who recently collected their prizes for the Credit Union Art Competition. Well done to Kaylagh Coleman, Katie Owens, Aisling Cosgrove, Emma Gibbons, Noelle Tiernan, Enan Kelly, Saoirse Kelly, Harry Smith and Shauna who won prizes.

PCH Musical Calamity Jane
The pupils will be taken to see the musical, ‘Calamity Jane’ being performed in PCH this Thursday at a cost of €6 per pupil. (€3 for show €3 towards bus). Please fill in the separate permission slip and return to the school.
Rugby Coaching
A Rugby coach from Connaught Rugby will attend the school after Christmas for a six week block of Ruby training for children in the senior room.
